Bang-Bang: Two Big Innings Boost Revs over Ducks

York Revolution News Release

(York, Pa.) - The York Revolution relied on two big innings to bury the Long Island Ducks 11-7 on Wednesday night at PeoplesBank Park. The win, coupled with a loss by Lancaster earlier in the day, puts the Revs up three games in the Freedom Division standings with less than a month to go in the first half, improving their league-best record to 28-18.

York plated six runs in the second inning, four coming home on a grand slam by Isaias Tejeda. The offense kept rolling in the fourth inning, as Bryan Pounds cleared the bases with a double to cap a five-run frame. The surge marked the third time this season the Revs cracked double digits in the run column. York broke out after scoring just two runs in its previous three games combined.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Alfredo Marte got things going by taking a Bobby Blevins pitch to the hip and going to second on a wild pitch. Pounds then slashed a double to the right center gap, scoring Marte to tie it up.

A flyout, single, and walk brought Tejeda to the plate, and on a 3-1 hanger he unleashed and sent a rocket over the LED board in right center for his first grand slam of the season. Two batters later, Telvin Nash cracked a solo home run of his own into left-center for his Atlantic League-leading 12th of the year to put the Revs up 6-1.

Long Island (24-21) got one back in the third when Anthony Vega walked and scored on a wild pitch, but York soon made up the difference and then some.

Josh Wilson legged out an infield single to begin the fourth, then Jason Repko and Tejeda were hit by a pitch and walked, respectively. After a couple strikeouts, Andres Perez and Marte each drew bases-loaded walks to plate a pair of runs. Pounds then got the wheel rolling, cracking another double to the same spot as his first to clear the bases and make it 11-2.

The Ducks wasted no time chipping away at the big deficit, scoring four times in the top of the fifth. Fehlandt Lentini doubled after a leadoff walk, then two batters later Ruben Gotay and Tyler Colvin knocked back-to-back run-scoring singles. After Mariel Checo relieved York starter Kelvin De La Cruz, Cody Puckett laced a double to score one man, while Mike Blanke sent a sac fly into left to make it 11-6.

Colvin knocked in another with an RBI single in the eighth, but the initial nine-run hole was too much for Long Island to overcome, as Checo, Ricardo Gomez, Julio DePaula, and Ron Schreurs combined to handle the final 4.2 innings.

Checo (3-0) earned the win with 1.2 scoreless innings in relief of De La Cruz, who fell two outs shy of qualifying for the decision. De La Cruz allowed six runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings of work.

Blevins (1-4) was pegged with the loss after allowing six runs on five hits in two innings.

Pounds led the way for the Revs bats, going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs. Tejeda drove in four on the grand slam, while Nash also notched two hits.

Lentini was a perfect 5-for-5 for the Ducks with a double and two runs. Colvin went 2-for-3 with three driven in, and Gotay had a three-hit night.

Notes: Tonight's game lasted three hours and 25 minutes and featured a combined 18 runs one day after a 1-0 Revs win that lasted two hours and 11 minutes. Andres Perez went 0-for-4 with a walk and an RBI to snap an 11-game hitting streak. Perez tied the Revs' season high for a hitting streak (Jason Repko) while batting .372 (16-43) over the 11 games. York goes for the series sweep on Thursday night as the Revs' Micah Owings (2-2, 3.56) squares off with the Ducks' Jack Snodgrass (4-4, 3.35). Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call. Thursday features ticket redemption for the Buck a Book program presented by York County Literacy Council. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
