Bandits take advantage of five Kernel errors on its way to a 7-4 victory

The River Bandits put up five runs in the first two innings to take an early 5-0 lead. The Bandits scored two more runs, eventually winning 7-4.

Bandit starter Carlos Martinez (1-1) went three scoreless innings allowing just three hits, while striking out nine. Boone Whiting came into the game in the sixth to relive Martinez. Whiting went three innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out three. Hector Corpas came into the game in the ninth and pitched one inning allowing three runs on two hits and walking one. Tyler Kehrer finished the game for the Kernels pitching 1.2 innings allowing one run on one hit.

Offensively, the Bandits were led by Nick Longmire. The center fielder went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Greg Garcia went 2-for-3 in the game with two RBI and a run scored. Packy Elkins went 2-for-3 in the game while scoring two runs.

Martinez was opposed by Kernels starter Heath Nichols. The right-hander went five innings allowing five runs (one earned) on three hits, while walking five. Beau Brooks relieved Nichols in the sixth and went 1.1 innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out one.

The Bandits return to action on Saturday when they continue the series with Cedar Rapids. The Bandits will send Seth Blair (1-3, 4.95) to oppose Kernels right-handed starter Suammy Baez (1-3, 4.39). First Pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Modern Woodmen Park.
