BUFFALO, N.Y. --- The Buffalo Bandits today announced the team has signed forwards Josh Byrne and Mitch Jones, and transition player Tim Edwards, each to a one-year contract, pending league approval.
Byrne (6'3", 200 lbs., 4/15/94) was selected first overall by Buffalo in the 2017 NLL Draft last month. The New Westminster, British Columbia native was named the 2017 MLL Rookie of the Year after he appeared in nine games for the Chesapeake Bayhawks, scoring 39 goals to establish a new league record for most goals by a rookie.
Before joining the Bayhawks, Byrne spent two years as a member of the Hofstra Pride and served as the team's captain during the 2017 season. During each of his two seasons at Hofstra, Byrne led the team in goals, assists, and points. He started his collegiate career in junior college at Nassau Community College and was named the 2015 NJCAA Attackman of the Year after recording 106 points (76+30).
Jones (6'2", 185 lbs., 12/12/1991) returns for his fifth season with the Bandits since being acquired from the Washington Stealth in September 2013. A native of Delta, British Columbia, Jones set career-high totals in goals (31), assists (38) and points (69) in 2017, ranking second on the team in both goals and points.
Buffalo's fourth-round selection (36th overall) in the 2015 NLL Draft, Edwards will take part in his second NLL season after making his NLL debut in 2017. The Jamesville, New York native and former Canisius College standout tallied seven points (2+5) and 67 loose balls as a rookie last season, and went 184-for-344 (53.5%) on faceoffs, cracking the franchise's top 10 in career faceoff wins.
