May 25, 2006 - arenafootball2 (af2) - Bakersfield Blitz
BAKERSFIELD - The af2 assigned new kicker, Jaret Johnson to the Blitz roster in replace of current kicker, Kirk Yliniemi. Yliniemi has been placed on league exempt, as he has moved to the Winnepeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.
As a commonly known trend in the af2, most talented kickers are hard to find as they move their way up the ladder; however, coaches can barely help but keep a less than adequate kicker on their roster for more than a week. The Bakersfield Blitz coaches have found themselves in such a position as they transition to yet another kicker, Jaret Johnson.
Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Johnson (5\'9, 185) is one of the youngest rookies on the Blitz roster. Johnson was an All-American at Idaho State University, where he graduated two weeks ago.
The af2 has also assigned OL/DL, Chuck Jones to the 2006 Blitz roster. Jones (6\'4, 205) played for Portland State University before signing with the af2 Everett Hawks this season. Jones has been traded for a Blitz future consideration by the Hawks.
FB/LB, Nick Onaindia has been placed on long-term injured reserve. Onaindia is expected to be out for the next four weeks. DS, Jerry McCloud has been released and placed on re-assignment by the AF2.
The rest of the Blitz team are traveling North on Saturday, May 27 for the Battle of Highway 99 - Part II against the Central Valley Coyotes. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Selland Arena in Fresno. In game one of the three game series, Blitz defeated the Central Valley Coyotes, 38-28 on April 15 in Fresno.
