Back-To-Back MVP T-Shirts, Knit Scarves and Fireworks Added to August Promos

Springfield, MO - The Springfield Cardinals, Double-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, are excited to announce three new additions to the 2013 Promotional Schedule - the American National Back-to-Back Texas League Player of the Year T-Shirt Giveaway (2,500) on Friday, August 23 and the Mercy Knit Scarf Giveaway (2,500) along with the End of Season Fireworks Show on Saturday, August 31.

American National Back-to-Back Texas League Player of the Year T-Shirt Giveaway added to Friday, August 23

The American National Back-to-Back Texas League Player of the Year T-Shirts highlight the rare accomplishment of having consecutive Cardinals named the league's top player in back-to-back seasons - 1B Matt Adams in 2011 and OF Oscar Taveras in 2012.

Adams was one of only two players in all of Minor League Baseball in 2011 to hit .300 with at least 30 homers and 100 RBIs, capturing the Texas League Player of the Year and Cardinals Minor League Player of the Year awards. With the incredible campaign, Adams also set Springfield Cardinals All-Time Single Season records with 32 home runs and a Texas League leading 101 RBIs. He debuted in St. Louis in 2012 and has been with the big Cards all season in 2013, currently batting .299 with seven home runs and 30 RBIs through 62 games.

The top prospect in the Cardinals system, Taveras in 2012 won the Texas League Batting Title (.321 average) and started in right field and unanimously won the MVP during the All-Star Game. He also played in the prestigious Futures Game and became the second straight Springfield Cardinal to win not only the Texas League Player of the Year award, but also the Cardinals Minor League Player of the Year honors. After helping Springfield capture its first Texas League Championship a season ago, Taveras started the 2013 campaign with the Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A) and is hitting .306 with five home runs and 32 RBIs through 46 games this year.

The Friday, August 23 game will also be highlighted by the previously scheduled AM Pyrotechnics Friday Night Fireworks Show, featuring Top 40 Music. First Pitch that night is 7:09pm and gates will open at 6:09pm.

Mercy Knit Scarf Giveaway and End of Season Fireworks added to Saturday, August 31

In addition to the Mercy Knit Scarf Giveaway for 2,500 Cardinals fans, the Saturday, August 31 game will also feature a can't-miss End of Season Fireworks Show, presented by AM Pyrotechnics. As the Cardinals embark on the final full month of the 2013 Regular Season, what better way to say "thank you" to the best fans in Minor League Baseball than with a fireworks finale to wrap up the August schedule at Hammons Field?

The Saturday, August 31 game will also feature the Specialty Teal Pinstripe Jersey Auction to benefit GYNCA. First Pitch that night will be 6:09pm, with gates opening at 5:09pm.

Upcoming Sysco Foods Team Card Sets on August 6 honor the past and highlight the future

After the Cardinals wrap up this week's seven-game road trip to Tulsa and Arkansas, Springfield returns home to Hammons Field to begin a six-game homestand on Tuesday, August 6. That night will feature the annual Sysco Foods Team Baseball Card Set Giveaway for 4,000 Cardinals fans.

This year's set is a unique and special combination of tributes to iconic members of the Cardinals past along with previews of the next generation of Cardinals Baseball, while of course recognizing the exciting players in the present.

In addition to the current Springfield Cardinals, the set features numerous specialty cards, including a commemorative 2012 Texas League Champions card, a Stan Musial Tribute Night card, a John Q.
