Binghamton Senators News Release
LAST WEEK: The Sens (28-29-6-2) have 64 points in sixth place in the East Division of the Eastern Conference. Binghamton is two points behind fifth place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the race for the final playoff berth in the East Division. The Senators won two of three games last week with both victories on enemy ice.
WEDNESDAY, MAR. 3rd @ WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (3-7 L): Binghamtons losing streak was extended to seven games and its road winless hit ten games (0-8-2) in the loss to the Penguins. The game turned in the second period following the ejection of goaltender RAY EMERY (12 saves in 31:07) at 11:07 when he incurred a match penalty. Goals twenty-six seconds apart by the Pens on relief netminder BILLY THOMPSON (8 saves in 28:53) snapped a 1-1 tie and effectively put he contest out of reach. JAN PLATIL netted his first professional goal in the second period and DENIS HAMEL and ARPAD MIHALY added third period tallies.

FRIDAY, MAR. 5th @ ROCHESTER (3-1 W): Two third period goals by DENIS HAMEL broke a 1-1 tie and sent the Sens onto their first victory since February 21st. BRAD TAPPER celebrated his return to the line-up with a pair of assists and BILLY THOMPSON made 23 saves to record the win in goal. HAMELs goal at 3:53 of the third period was the game-winning goal, his team-leading sixth of the season.

SUNDAY, MAR. 7th @ BRIDGEPORT (4-3 W): Binghamton closed out its six-game road trip by shading the East Division leaders, fighting back from a 2-0 deficit after one period. DAVID HYMOVITZ sparked the comeback with his second shorthanded goal of the year at 8:49 of the middle period to get the Sens on the board before JULIEN VAUCLAIR and BRAD TAPPER (PPG) closed out a three-goal uprising in a 4:10 span to put Binghamton up 3-2. Bridgeport answered just 34 seconds after the go-ahead marker, but TAPPER capped off his second straight two-point performance with his second goal of the game (8th of the season) at 11:06 of the final period. The win was just the second in seven regular season games all-time at the Arena at Harbor Yard.

THIS WEEK: With 15 games left in the regular season, the Sens tackle a four-game in five night stretch beginning with their first home game in 14 days Wednesday before hitting the road once again for three straight contests.
WEDNESDAY, MAR. 10th vs. ROCHESTER (7:05 p.m.) & FRIDAY, MAR. 12th @ ROCHESTER (7:35 p.m.): The Sens and Amerks hook up for the sixth and seventh meetings in the eight-game regular season series. Binghamton owns a 4-1 lead in the season series and is 7-2-2 all-time (3-2-1 in Rochester). Rochester is winless (0-4-1) in five all-time visits to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena The Sens took a 3-1 decision in the most recent battle March 3rd in Rochester. DENIS HAMEL leads the Sens with six points (3+3) in the season series. Binghamton has a 13-8 scoring edge in the series and the winning team has scored three goals in all but one victory (2-1 ot BNG 10/11) in the season series. DOMENIC PITTIS (0+4) leads the Amerks with four points against the Sens.
SATURDAY, MAR. 13th @ WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (7:05 p.m.): The Sens and Penguins continue their battle for the final playoff berth in the seventh of eight regular season games and the third of four at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza. The Pens own a 3-1-2 advantage in the season series as Binghamton is winless in its last three against Wilkes-Barre (0-2-1). The all-time series is even at 6-6-2 with the Sens owning a 2-3-1 mark at Wachovia Arena. ALEXANDRE GIROUX has four goals and six points overall against Wilkes-Barre while MICHEL OUELLET and SHANE ENDICOTT have six points in six games versus the Senators. Both clubs have eight power play goals in the series
B-NOTES: DAVID HYMOVITZ has two shorthanded goals this season, both coming against Bridgeport The Sens have netted three of the seven shorthanded goals allowed by Bridgeport this year Binghamton is t-3rd with Cincinnati as each club has notched 11 man-down goals Sundays win in Bridgeport was just the eighth in 36 games when the Sens have allowed the games first goal The come-from-behind win was the first this season when the Sens faced a two-goal deficit in the first period DENIS HAMELs game-winning goal at Rochester was his team-leading sixth of the season and his second against his former teammates (October 11th) and also has six empty net markers, also a team-high With a career-best three assists in the Bridgeport win, HAMELs 56 points ranks seventh in league scoring and is three points shy of setting a new personal best (58 points in 76 games with Rochester 1999-2000) RAY EMERY serves the remaining three games of his suspension Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, before being eligible to return for Sundays visit to Albany Since allowing four power play goals against Wilkes-Barre March 3rd, the Sens have killed off 13 straight shorthanded situations With JAN PLATIL scoring his first professional goal to snap a 57-game drought to start his career, the clubs longest dry spell now belongs to GREG WATSON with 52 games without lighting the lamp BRAD TAPPER has ten points (4+6) in his last eight games dating back to January 24th The back-to-back wins last weekend come exactly one month to the day that the club last won two in a row (7-4 Hershey February 6th and 6-5 Philadelphia February 7th).
