Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators kept their winning streak alive tonight with a 6-1 victory over the Portland Pirates. The B-Sens' ninth straight came with plenty of offensive support as the team tallied 16 points on the scoresheet.

The Pirates capitalized on a power play at 6:10 in the first period to open the game's scoring. Forward Brendan Shinnimin was credited with the goal with assists from Alexandre Bolduc and Ethan Werek. Portland wouldn't hold the lead long as it took just 29 seconds for B-Sens forward Pat Cannone to tie the game up at one.

The B-Sens took the lead at 5:33 of the second frame as Cannone fired his second goal of the game (and fifth on the season) past Portland backstop Mark Visentin. Assists were credited to Jakob Silfverberg and Mike Hoffman. Forward Hugh Jessiman expanded Binghamton's lead at 13:18 with helpers from Corey Cowick and Cannone.

The game's next goal came off the stick of B-Sens defenseman Patrick Wiercioch at 10:00 of the third with assists from Andre Benoit and Jessiman during a power play. Silfverberg added a goal of his own at 12:24, also on a power play chance, with assists from Wiercioch and Jessiman. Wiercioch sealed Binghamton's 6-1 victory over Portland with his second goal of the period with help from Cowick and Jean-Gabriel Pageau.

With the victory the B-Sens tied a franchise record for wins, set back in 2005.

Ben Bishop started in goal for the B-Sens and earned his fifth straight win, making 40 saves on 41 shots faced. Visentin came away with the loss for the Pirates as he allowed six of 37 Binghamton shots.

The B-Sens will wrap up this weekend's home stand tomorrow night with a matchup against the Norfolk Admirals at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $19 for side and $18 for end seats. Fans can purchase tickets through the B-Sens executive office by calling (607) 722-SENS (7367), the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena box office, and all Ticketmaster outlets.
