B-Sens Host Veterans and Military Appreciation Night this Saturday

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators announced today that they will host Veterans and Military Appreciation Night, presented by Lockheed Martin, this Saturday as they host the Norfolk Admirals.
The first 500 fans in attendance will receive mini American flags courtesy of the U.S. Army recruitment office in Vestal.
There will be a pair of Humvees and an armored personnel carrier, decommissioned from the U.S. Army that will be on display out in front of the arena as arranged by the Broome County Sheriff's Department. Spc. J. Matthew Barcak, a Southern Tier native who served in Iraq, will assist in driving the vehicles to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Master Sgt. Robert T. Shafer will be participating in a ceremonial first puck drop. Sgt. Shafer is the 1st Sergeant for the 314th Recruiting Squadron, Burlington, New Jersey. He is responsible for the health, morale, and welfare of 77 recruiters and support personnel and their families. His area of responsibility spans more than 29,000 square miles covering a geographical area that encompasses New Jersey, Delaware, and parts of Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Sgt. Shafer grew up in Binghamton and entered the Air Force in February 1992. His Air Force background includes various duties spanning the Munitions Systems career field. His assignments include bases in Germany, Italy, Korea, North Carolina and New Jersey. Sergeant Shafer has also deployed in support of Operations DENY FLIGHT, ALLIED FORCE, SOUTHERN WATCH, and ENDURING FREEDOM in Kosovo and Southwest Asia.
Also Saturday, the B-Sens will be wearing special patriotic jerseys which will be auctioned off post-game.
Tickets are $19 for side seating and $18 for end seating.
