B-Sens Fall to Pens, 4-2

WILKES-BARRE, P.A. -The Binghamton Senators were on the road in Wilkes-Barre tonight to take on the Penguins at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. The B-Sens were unable to overcome a 3-0 first period deficit, ultimately falling to the East Division rival Pens, 4-2.

The Penguins stormed the B-Sens blue line in the first period as Trevor Smith scored his 19th goal of the season after sliding one between the Binghamton pipes with the help of Chad Kolarik and Riley Holzapfel at the 11:35 mark. Shortly after, point-leading Kolarik gave Wilkes-Barre a two-goal lead at 14:38 with assists on the play coming from Holzapfel and Dylan Reese. Before the period concluded, the Penguins would rally one more as Paul Thompson scored after receiving passes from Chris Collins and Robert Bortuzzo.

The B-Sens would finally generate some offense in the second as Corey Cowick put Binghamton on the board courtesy of Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Danny New at 12:51.Despite Binghamton taking three consecutive penalties early in the second, Wilkes-Barre was unable to build on their lead.

Hugh Jessiman helped the B-Sens pull within one after cashing in his 10th goal of the season at 5:30 into the final frame. Chris Wideman earned the lone helper. Despite Binghamton's pair of goals, Wilkes-Barre would add one more on the power play as Brian Gibbons slipped one in the Binghamton net at 14:42. Alex Grant and Joey Mormina combined for the assists.

Nathan Lawson started in net for Binghamton, earning his fifth loss of the season after stopping 30 of 34 shots. Wilkes-Barre goaltender Jeff Zatkoff earned the win for the Penguins after turning aside 28 of 30 Binghamton shots.

The B-Sens return to action Friday, March 29 as they host the Adirondack Phantoms. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Tickets to the game are $19 for side and $18 for end seats.
