B-Mets Win Finale In Walk-Off Fashion

Edwards Guzman hit a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth, giving the Binghamton Mets a 9-8 win over the Akron Aeros in the season finale at NYSEG Stadium Monday. The win snaps Binghamton's losing streak at six games.

Akron (80-61) went ahead in the first on Ryan Goleski's two-run double before Matt McBride scored on an error in the second to put the Aeros ahead 3-0. Caleb Stewart's two-run homer in the bottom of the second cut Akron's lead to one, but the Aeros countered with three runs in the third, on Stephen Head's RBI double and Rodney Choy Foo's two-run homer, for a 6-2 lead.

The B-Mets (61-81) got a run back in the fifth when Miguel Negron doubled, moved to third on Luis Rivera's groundout and scored on Mike Carp's groundout. Stewart singled in the sixth before Vince Harrison doubled him in to pull Binghamton within 6-4.

Binghamton loaded the bases in the seventh when Negron walked, Rivera singled and Carp walked. Two batters later, Guzman hit a pinch-hit, three-run double to put the B-Mets on top 7-6.

Stephen Head's two-run homer in the eighth put Akron ahead 8-7.

After Lino Urdaneta (1-1) tossed a scoreless top of the ninth, Rivera led off the bottom of the ninth with an infield single off Jim Ed Warden (4-4). Carp followed with a single before Guzman doubled to deep center to score the winning runs.

The Binghamton Mets open the 2008 season at home on Thursday, April 3rd vs. the Trenton Thunder.

Notes: The B-Mets drew 230,053 fans to their 66 home dates this season, the second-best total in team history and 14,717 more than the year before. Binghamton's average attendance of 3,486 per game is 8% higher than last season's average.
