LAST TIME OUT: Matt Oberste launched a three-run, go-ahead home run in the eighth inning and the Binghamton Mets held on for a 5-2 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Maikis De La Cruz went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run and Jared King went 3-for-4 with a run.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Robert Gsellman takes the mound for his fourth start of the season and second against the Fisher Cats. On Monday against Portland, the righty allowed three runs on four hits over six innings in a no-decision. It was the righty's third straight quality start. Gsellman faced the Fisher Cats on Opening Day on April 8. He struck out seven over 5.2 innings in a 2-1 B-Mets win.
NEW HAMPSHIRE STARTER: RHP Luis Santos makes his fourth start in New Hampshire after two appearances with Dunedin (TOR: High-A). He last threw on Monday in Trenton and allowed three runs on six hits over five innings. Both of his appearances with Dunedin resulted in two scoreless innings, one as a starter and one as a reliever.
A LONG TIME COMING: Luis Mateo earned the win out of the bullpen on Saturday, his first win in over three years. Mateo last won on April 9, 2013 with St. Lucie (High-A) against Palm Beach. As a starting pitcher, Mateo struck out nine over 6.2 shutout innings in that game. He would make a spot start with Binghamton six days later, exit with elbow pain and later have Tommy John surgery.
THAT'S SIX: Saturday night's win represented the sixth straight B-Mets win, their longest winning streak since they compiled a six-game streak from July 17 to July 22 last year against the Rock Cats and Thunder. Binghamton's last seven-game winning streak occurred in June 2015. The B-Mets have only gained a half-game in the standings thanks to a nine-game winning streak by Hartford.
BREAK OUT THE BROOMS: A win today would give the B-Mets their second straight series sweep. The Fisher Cats have not been swept in 2016. Binghamton is 4-2 in series finales
SHUT IT DOWN: After recording only one save in the season's first 15 games, the B-Mets bullpen has three saves in its past five. Beck Wheeler and Akeel Morris are tied for the team lead with two each. Wheeler has a save in each of his last two appearances after not having one for over a year. Morris loaded the bases in the ninth but shut the door for his second save on Saturday.
WHIP IT: Robert Gsellman has done well to keep the bases clear, his 0.93 WHIP is tied for seventh lowest in the Eastern League and is the lowest of the Binghamton rotation.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: Binghamton will hit the road for Maine to see the Portland Sea Dogs. The B-Mets are coming off a sweep of Portland at NYSEG Stadium and have won twelve consecutive games at Hadlock Field. LHP Andrew Barbosa starts for Binghamton against RHP Teddy Stankiewicz for Portland
