B-Mets Fall In Series Opener
July 25, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Binghamton Senators News Release
Caleb Stewart homered, but the Akron Aeros scored three times with two outs for a 5-1 win over the Binghamton Mets at Canal Park Friday. Binghamton has lost two in a row.
B-Mets (55-51) lefthander Michael Antonini retired the first five to face him in his Double-A debut before allowing three straight to reach with two out in the second, with Brandon Pinckney driving in a run with a bloop single. Antonini (0-1) allowed a leadoff homer to Josh Rodriguez in the third before Jose Constanza tripled in a run and scored on a wild pitch in the fourth for a 4-0 Akron lead.
Akron (64-42) kept the B-Mets off the board until the seventh, when Stewart lined a Scott Lewis pitch over the leftfield wall. That was the only run Lewis (5-2) would allow in seven innings of work.
The Aeros added an unearned run in the seventh when Matt LaPorta reached on a two-base error and scored on a Wes Hodges base hit.
Saturday, the B-Mets play the second game of their three-game series against the Akron Aeros. Tobi Stoner (1-4, 5.44) will start for Binghamton against Frank Herrmann (8-3, 4.85) of Akron. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Canal Park with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
Notes: dating back to 2005, the B-Mets have dropped 13 of 19 at Canal Park...Antonini lost for the first time since 6/6, when he was pitching for Low-A Savannah.
