Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

WATERLOO, IOWA-The Iowa Broadcast News Association has recognized live game coverage of Waterloo Black Hawks hockey on 1650 "The Fan" as the top play-by-play programming originating from the state's large market radio stations.

Saturday, the Black Hawks claimed First Place in the 2017 IBNA Large Market Sports Play-by-Play category during the IBNA's annual convention in Johnston. Criteria included flexibility, vividness and enthusiasm.

Iowa's large markets are defined as stations with primary service areas in Dubuque, Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo/Cedar Falls, Des Moines, Sioux City, and Omaha/Council Bluffs, as well as networks or news services.

"The Black Hawks organization would like to thank our radio sponsors who make it possible to bring our fans every game - home and away - during the regular season and playoffs," noted Black Hawks Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations Tim Harwood. "We encourage you to let these sponsors know that you hear them during Black Hawks games. This collective effort also benefitted from the diligence and care shown by the 1650 staff - led by Program Director Bob Foster and General Manager Jim Coloff - and the Black Hawks are grateful for their support."

Radio broadcasts of Black Hawks games are also available through the internet at 1650thefan.com and The Fan's mobile app.

Follow the Hawks on 1650-AM this Friday and Sunday as they begin a Western Conference Final series on the road against the Sioux City Musketeers. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 on Friday and 3:45 on Sunday. The Black Hawks' next home game will be against the Musketeers in Game Three of the best-of-five series on May 5th at Young Arena.
