Rockford Aviators News Release

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, got two home runs from Edgar Corcino and a couple big innings Tuesday afternoon as they beat the visiting Southern Illinois Miners 11-4 in a game that was called in the bottom of the sixth due to rain, which fell for several innings, making the field unplayable.

Rockford answered a Miners first-inning run with five of their own and the Aviators led 5-1 after one inning.

The Aviators tacked on a run in the second inning, thanks to Kenny Bryant's second RBI single of the game and it was a 6-1 game after two.

Southern Illinois got one in the fourth inning on back-to-back doubles by Ken Gregory and Cannon Lester to cut Rockford's lead to 6-2.

Edgar Corcino led off the bottom of the fourth with his second home run of the season to give the Aviators a 7-2 lead through four innings.

In the fifth inning, the Miners again scored, this time plating two runs to get within three as the Aviators led 7-4.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Brandon Newton singled home Greg Van Horn, who doubled earlier in the inning. Corcino then came to the plate and hit his second home run of the game, this time a three-run shot over the Budweiser Party Porch in right field and Rockford led 11-4 after five innings.

With a runner at second and one out in the bottom of the sixth, the managers of both clubs met with the umpires and determined that the steady rain that had come down for several innings had made the field unsafe to continue to play on and the game was called complete.

The Aviators will start a four-game, three day, series with the Gateway Grizzlies tomorrow. The doubleheader will begin at 6:05 p.m. on Meyer's Dog Days of Summer, where fans can attend the game with their four-legged best friends.
