Avalanche beat Winston-Salem 6-3

SALEM, VA-The Salem Avalanche used a five-run six inning to get come back from a 3-1 deficit and beat Winston-Salem 6-3. The two teams have now split their best of three series.

Matt Albers (4-11) picked up the win. Albers allowed three runs on seven hits in his seven innings pitched. The Avalanche got a game-tying home run from Kevin Davidson as part of a five-run seventh inning. The five-run seventh ultimately gave Salem a victory.

The Avalanche scored first on sacrifice fly by Jonny Ash in the second inning. Ash?s sac fly scored Hunter Pence to make it 1-0 Salem.

The Warthogs scored three runs over the fifth and sixth innings against Matt Albers. Albers would finish strong by pitching a 1-2-3 seventh and striking out two in the process.

Salem started their five-run seventh inning with a two-run home run by Kevin Davidson. He pulled a changeup over the left-field wall plating the first two of five runs off Frazier Dizard (3-7). Ben Zobrist followed Davidson?s performance with a double. Saul Torres walked, then Scott Robinson ripped an RBI base hit.

Both Robinson and Torres scored on a single by Ervin Alcantara.

Salem closes out its three-game series with Winston-Salem Wednesday night. First pitch is at 7:07 and pre-game coverage starts at 6:43 in the Roanoke/Lynchburg area on ESPN radio 1240/1320 and on the Internet at broadcastmonsters.com.
