Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds are poised to welcome the 10 millionth fan to AutoZone Park this homestand, with the ballpark in its 17th season as the home of the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Entering the Redbirds' final homestand, the ballpark is a little under 12,000 fans away from welcoming its 10 millionth through the turnstiles. Lucky number 10 million will be showered with gifts and prizes to recognize the occasion.
Since its opening in 2000, AutoZone Park has drawn rave reviews across the nation from publications such as USA Today, Sports Illustrated, Southern Living, Sports Business Journal and Baseball America, having been called "one of America's 10 best ballpark vacation destinations," and it still remains as one of the crown jewels in professional baseball.
The building of the stadium is often credited with helping revitalize downtown Memphis, as it was part of a $2 billion downtown building boom. AutoZone Park hosted the 2003 Triple-A All-Star Game, and it will be home for the 2016 Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
