Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers are pleased to announce that Fullback/Linebacker, Demetrius Austrum was named U.S. Army’s Ironman of the week for week one.

“We are proud for Demetrius and his accomplishment this week,” said Head Coach Les Moss. “Its great to get his kind of recognition, especially for a rookie in the league.”

In his first af2 season, Demetrius Austrum put in a true Ironman performance in the Pioneers' 59-47 victory versus Oklahoma City Friday night. Defensively, Austrum battled in the trenches racking up 3.5 tackles, 1.5 for a loss, and half a sack for a three-yard loss. Offensively, Austrum rumbled for the final score of the game, a six-yard touchdown run that secured that night’s victory for the Pioneers. This marks the first time Austrum has been recognized as an af2 weekly award winner.

Austrum came to the Pioneers from the University of Buffalo. While playing there he participated in 33 games recording 69 tackles (42 unassisted), and 5.5 sacks. Austrum attended University of Buffalo from 2000-2004.

“Being a rookie and new to this game, this is indeed an honor for Demetrius to win this prestigious weekly award by af2,” said Pioneers GM/President Dave Berryman.

Pioneers single game and group tickets are now on sale. Anyone interested in purchasing Pioneers tickets should call the team’s ticket office at either (570) 270-5811 or (570) 270-5813. Tickets are also available through Ticketmaster.
