The Augusta Lynx went 2-2-0 this week, winning two in a row at home this weekend. The Lynx improved their record to 20-32-4 and are now tied with Columbus for 6th place in the Southeast Division with forty-four points, just four points behind 5th place Greenville.

The Lynx dropped a game in Greensboro on Tuesday, February 18 by a score of 5-2. Lynx goals were scored by Ryan Lauzon and Mike Legg, who picked one up on the power play. Tom Draper took the loss allowing five goals on twenty-one shots.

The Columbia Inferno traveled to Augusta Thursday, February 20 and defeated the Lynx by a score of 4-3. The Inferno took the early lead just three minutes into the game. Augusta’s Ryan Crane was able to tie up the game midway through the first period with his third goal of the season. The Inferno went up by two, but goals by Lynx Jim Shepherd and Patrick Yetman evened it up. The Inferno’s Barrie Moore got the game winner in the third.

The Lynx defeated rival Greenville Grrrowl 5-2 Saturday, February 22, with five unanswered goals in the second and third periods. Martin Lapointe had two power play goals in the win while Lauzon netted two goals and two assists. New Lynx Chris Gustafson also had a goal against his former team.

Augusta was able to come out on top following a shoot-out with the Greensboro Generals at home on Sunday, February 23. Draper was able to make 31 saves on 31 shots and allowed no goals during the shoot out for his first shoot-out victory in Augusta and improved his record to 3-3-1.

Thursday, February 27 the Lynx will travel to Greensboro for a rematch with the Generals. The Lynx are one up on the series 2-1-0 and 12-5-1 overall. The Lynx have two power play goals in nineteen opportunities and have been able to hold the Generals to just one power play goal in nine chances this season. Lauzon leads the scoring for the Lynx against the Generals with 2 points (1g-1a). Draper is 1-1-0 in 124 minutes played with a 1.93 Goals Against Average.

The Lynx will host the Pee Dee Pride Friday, February 28 for the seventh of eight meetings this season. Pee Dee’s Matt Reid has 10 points (2g-8a) against the Lynx. The Pride has been 6-27 on the power play and has one short-handed goal. The Lynx have just one power play goal in twenty-seven chances. Josh St. Louis and Brad Ralph lead the scoring for the Lynx against the Pride with four points (2g-2a) each.

The South Carolina Stingrays will travel to Augusta Saturday, March 1 for the fifth meeting, and the first since December 21. South Carolina defeated the Lynx 3-1 in Charleston in the last meeting. The Stingrays have five power play goals in twenty-two chances and Augusta has been 1-13.

Player of the Week: Lauzon had 6 points (3g-3a) in three games played this week. He had 4 points (2g-2a) in the win against Greenville on Saturday.

Goaltender of the Week: Draper was 2-1-0 for the week with a 2.93 Goals Against Average and a .892 Save Percentage. He improved his over-all record to 3-3-1.

Margaritaville Weekend only 2 weeks away!!! March 14th and 15th will be the Lynx annual Margaritaville celebration. Commemorative jerseys will be worn both nights by the players. Friday night following the game the “Caribbean Cowboys” will perform in the Lynx Den until 1 am. Join the team in the Lynx Den Saturday night after the game for a Margaritaville jersey.

Upcoming Events

Monday, February 23: Join the Lynx at Cadillac’s Fine Food and Spirits at 7 pm for the “Behind the Bench Coach’s Show” with Head Coach David Wilkie and Kyle Schultz.

Tuesday, February 24: The children at North Columbia Elementary will be entertained by a reading from a Lynx player at 2 pm.

Thursday, February 27: The Lynx will travel to Greensboro, NC to take on the Greensboro Generals. Game time is 7:00 pm at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.

Friday, February 28: The Lynx host the Pee Dee Pride at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center at 7:35 pm.

Saturday, March 1: The South Carolina Stingrays will travel to the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center. Face-off is at 7:35 pm.
