 Owen Sound Attack

Attack Set for Three in Three

November 16, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack will kick off a three game road trip against the 2017 Memorial Cup host Windsor Spitfires on Thursday, Nov. 17.

Slated for three games against three West Division opponents over the course of 72 hours, the Attack will look to rebound from a week that saw them pick up just one of an available six points in the Ontario Hockey League standings.

With a 2-1 overtime loss to the Ottawa 67's on Saturday, Nov. 12, the Attack saw their record fall to 10-10-1-0 on the year, giving them just 21 points in their 21 games played. That leaves Owen Sound at a level .500 mark on the year, but just four points up on Guelph for 4th place in the Midwest Division.

The Attack will kick off their road trip by heading to Windsor to take on the West Division leading Spitfires, who have sprinted out to a 13-4-1-0 record, which gives them 27 points, one ahead of the Sarnia Sting.

Windsor is powered offensively by the duo of Logan Brown and Gabriel Villardi, who both have 21 points on the year. However, the Spitfires strength is scoring in numbers, as 10 of their players have reached double digit points on the year.

The Attack counters with the high flying Petrus Palmu, whose 14 goals have him 6th in the league scoring race, while his 25 points sit him one up on Nick Suzuki (10 goals, 14 assists) in Owen Sound's team points race.

The two teams will meet for the first of four match ups this season when the puck drops at the WFCU Centre at 7:05pm on Thursday night. Owen Sound won the 2015-16 season series by winning three of the four games contested, including one of the tilts in Windsor.

Thursday's game will also feature a matchup between two of the league's best goaltenders, in Owen Sound's Michael McNiven and Windsor's Michael DiPietro.

McNiven enters the game with an 8-5-1-0 record and a 2.41 goals against average to go along with his .916 save percentage. The 3rd year goalie out of Georgetown is ranked 4th in the OHL in both categories, and is coming off of a spectacular outing in the CIBC Canada vs Russia Series where he allowed just two goals on 27 shots to help pace Team OHL to a 5-2 win over Team Russia.

In Windsor's net, DiPietro has posted a 9-3-1-0 record on the season, complemented by his 2.37 GAA, which is 3rd in the league, and his .913 SV% that sits just back of Erie's Troy Timpano for 5th in the OHL.

Following the game against the Spitfires, the Attack will then head to Flint to take on the Firebirds for the 2nd time this season.

Owen Sound and Flint have met once already on the year, with the Firebirds blanking the Attack 2-0 in Flint on OHL Opening Week.

Friday night's game, which begins at 7:00pm, is a match up between the 7th and 8th place teams in the Western Conference, with Flint edging Owen Sound by two points thanks to their 11-8-0-1 record.

Ryan Moore paces the Firebirds offensive attack, having scored 15 goals and added another 15 helpers in 20 games this year.

The Attack will then wrap up the weekend with a date in Saginaw against the Spirit on Saturday night, a game that marks Owen Sound's only trip to the Dow Event Centre on the year.

Puck drop on Saturday night is set for 7:05pm and will be Saginaw's 3rd game of the weekend as well after the Spirit take on Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday night, and the Erie Otters on Friday night.

All three of Owen Sound's games this weekend will be available live on Rogers Local 53 or by listening to the call of Fred Wallace on Kia of Owen Sound/Terry's Trailer Service Bear Radio.

The Weekend Preview is presented by Joe Tomato's, located next to the Galaxy Cinemas on the Sunset Strip. Half priced appetizers and wings are available to fans following every Attack home game, simply by showing your ticket stub at Joe Tomato's.
