Attack Raise Cancer Awareness

After several months of buildup, fundraising and a lot of hair growing, the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League held their Fight Back Against Cancer afternoon at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. Members of the Owen Sound Attack gathered in the main lobby of the Bayshore in front of dozens of fans to shave their heads and raise awareness and funds for Cancer Research.

The Owen Sound Attack and the Canadian Cancer Society were able to raise over $6000.00 during the one day event, $4500.00 of the money raised was through pledges that the Owen Sound Attack players gathered, $1600.00 of that was from Russian Import, Roman Berdnikov's pledges alone.

"This event was a great success", stated Attack Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Brent Fisher. "This is the first time we had ever done something like this and the response from our players and fans was extremely positive. We are going to make this an annual event and shoot for $10,000.00 next year."

Saturday afternoons event was a Kick off to Cops for Cancer, the signature event for the Bluewater Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society. In 2010 Cops for Cancer will be kicking off its 14th year in Grey and Bruce. Today the Cops for Cancer campaign is one of the most successful Canadian Cancer Society events in all of Ontario. The people of Grey and Bruce counties have taken the campaign to heart.
