Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack, in partnership with the Owen Sound Salvation army is pleased to announce that on Monday, December 10th, Wednesday, December 12th and Thursday, December 13th various players will be at Zehr's in Owen Sound from 6-8pm to assist in the Salvation Army's Christmas Kettle Drive.

The Salvation Army is in desperate need of both cash donations and non-perishable food items, which help in assisting local families during the holiday season. "There is certainly a lot of families that need help during this joyous, but stressful time of year.", stated Attack Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Brent Fisher. "Greg Ireland and the Attack players recognized this as an opportunity to help those less fortunate and we are just happy we can be of assistance."

The kettle first appeared on the streets of San Francisco in the early 1890s. Brainchild of Captain Joseph McFee, the kettles were used in a campaign to raise funds for a shelter in the waterfront district. Captain McFee suspended a large cooking pot from a tripod and place a sign above it that read: Keep the pot boiling. Shortly thereafter, Christmas kettles began appearing in communities across the United States and are now an indispensable part of the holiday season in Canada and the rest of the world.

The Owen Sound Salvation Army Food Bank offers emergency food to unemployed and under-employed people who are hungry because they do not have enough food for themselves or their familes.
