Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack and General Manager Dale DeGray are pleased to announce the hire of Owen Sound Attack alumni Joey Hishon as a new Regional Scout with the team.

A native of Stratford, Ontario, Hishon graduated in 2006-07 from the Ontario Minor Hockey League's Stratford AA Midget Warriors before being selected 8th overall in the first round of the 2007 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection by the Owen Sound Attack. Playing four seasons with the Attack, the centreman managed 110 goals and 145 assists in just 214 games played. Eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, the Colorado Avalanche took Hishon in the first round, 17th overall.

Tied for the lead in scoring in the 2011 OHL Playoffs, Hishon led Owen Sound to the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL Champions in 2011. In March 2011, he was signed to a three-year entry-level contract with the Avalanche.

Despite suffering a concussion during the Attack's 2011 Memorial Cup run which delayed his professional debut until March 2013, Hishon scored his first professional goal in his fifth game with Colorado's AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters, on March 29th, 2013 against the Chicago Wolves. Hishon was called up to the Colorado Avalanche in March 2015, scoring his first NHL goal on April 7th, 2015 against the Nashville Predators.

Following the 2015-16 NHL season, Hishon opted to embark on a European career, joining the KHL with the Finnish club Jokerit. In June of 2017, Hishon signed a one-year deal with Swedish top-tier club Lulea of the Swedish Hockey League.

"The decision to stop playing was extremely tough for me," Hishon says of his decision to retire from professional hockey.

"My four years playing in Owen Sound are some of the best days of my life thus far, and after speaking with Dale and realizing the potential to re-join the Attack organization, it made my decision to move on much easier. I am extremely excited to learn from such an accomplished staff."

The Owen Sound alum also currently runs Skills Corp., a skills development business, providing high performance hockey training on and off the ice. You can follow updates from Hishon on the Skills Corp Instagram via @skills_corp.

"We are very lucky to have past alumni like Joey back in the fold here," said DeGray of the hiring.

"He has a huge passion for the game, on and off the ice, and he will be instrumental with young player development. We are excited to get him started on his post-playing career."
