Attack Alum Szypula Commits to Western Mustangs Men's Hockey Program

Owen Sound Attack alumni Ethan Szypula is making the next step in his hockey career committing to his hometown Western University. Starting in September he will trade in the Attack black and red for the purple of the Western Mustangs men's hockey program.

After being taken by the Attack 17th overall in the 2013 OHL Priority selection, Szypula spent five years with the Attack playing in 320 regular season games tallying 61 goals and adding 120 assists, while adding another 10 goals and 18 assists in 41 playoff games.

"Ethan is a very talented player who will be an asset to the Western program" said Attack General Manger Dale DeGray. "We wish him the best both on and off the ice as he begins the next stage of his hockey career."

In September he will join a Western Mustangs team that finished in the middle of the pack in the Ontario University Athletics West division in 2017-18. Academically, Szypula will be enrolling in the social sciences program.

"I am super excited to be back in my hometown, attending a great school and joining a great hockey program" said Szypula. "Hopefully, I can fit right in with the team and contribute to winning games, that's the goal."

"The team is really coming together and I am hoping to be another solid piece to the puzzle and am looking forward to my future with Western" added Szypula.

Szypula's first chance to suit up for the Mustangs in OUA men's hockey action will be Thursday, October 4th when Western visits the University of Waterloo Warriors.
