Atlanta Aims to Secure No. 2 Seed against Phoenix Friday

PHOENIX - The Atlanta Dream will travel to Phoenix to face the Mercury inside Talking Stick Resort Arena Friday beginning at 10 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed on WNBA League Pass.

Atlanta (22-10) returns to action after defeating the New York Liberty, 86-77, in a record-breaking game, Sunday night. Renee Montgomery led the Dream in scoring with 30 points, including eight three-pointers, which tied the WNBA record and set a new Dream record for three's in a game. After earning its sixth straight win, the Dream also recorded a franchise record 22nd win on the season. Atlanta has won a franchise record six straight road games from July 1 - August 12.

The Dream can clinch the No. 2 seed in the WNBA Playoffs with a win Friday. The second seed will guarantee the Dream a double-bye and a spot in the WNBA Semifinals beginning Sunday, August 26. The 2018 WNBA Playoffs begin Tuesday, August 21 with a pair of first-round games.

The Mercury (18-14) most recently played Sunday night and defeated the Los Angeles Sparks, 86-78. Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner led the Mercury in scoring with 20 points apiece. Taurasi had 14 assists and Griner grabbed 13 boards.

The season series is tied 1-1, with the Dream coming out on top in the last matchup, 76-70, in Atlanta on July 8. Atlanta is looking for its first win at Phoenix since July 7, 2012.
