Asheville Altitude News Release

ASHEVILLE, N.C., March 21, 2002 – The Asheville Altitude have signed guard Allen Griffin, team head coach Joey Meyer announced today. The pick-up of Griffin comes after the announcement of guards Jimmy King and Stais Boseman being released from their NBDL contracts after repeated violations of league policy.

Griffin, a 6’1”, 187 pound guard was drafted by the Columbus Riverdragons in the fifth round (36 overall) of the inaugural NBDL draft on November 1. Griffin played four seasons at Syracuse University from 1998-2001 and appeared in 133 games. He averaged 6.1 ppg., 3.0 apg., 2.0 rpg and 1.0 spg. In three of his four seasons with the Orangemen, Griffin played alongside former Altitude guard Jason Hart. Hart was called-up to the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs in December.

During his senior season, Griffin played his best basketball, averaging 10.8 ppg., 6.4 apg., and 3.2 rpg. Over his career at Syracuse, Griffin shot 29 percent from the three-point line (70-of-241) and recorded 409 assists, 140 steals and 13 blocked shots.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Griffin was a standout performer at Robeson High School, where he surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career. He was apart of two division championship teams and reached the state title game during his final season.

Most recently, Griffin played two stints internationally in the Euro-League and Goodyear-League (Europe).

Griffin will be in uniform tonight, when the Altitude host the Roanoke Dazzle in the final home game of the regular season. Griffin will wear jersey number #2. The Altitude roster now stands at nine (9).
