Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (68-49, 28-20), Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Texas Rangers, began their six-game road trip Sunday with a 6-0 shutout win against the Frederick Keys at Harry Grove Stadium. Alec Asher earned his eighth win, working a career-best eight innings of three-hit baseball.

Asher (8-7) never faced more than four in an inning and only once allowed a Keys runner into scoring position. The right-hander walked one and struck out six, lowering his ERA to 3.30.

The Birds jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings against righty Zach Clark, who was saddled with the loss. Clark, the knuckleballer, worked five innings and allowed six runs, five earned, on five hits with seven walks. The Pelicans benefited from nine walks in the game and got their six runs on just five hits.

Drew Robinson and Joe Maloney each added RBI singles to fuel the Pelicans offense.

Ryan Harvey worked a scoreless ninth inning to complete the Pelicans sixth shutout win of the season.

The Pelicans have won four straight games and improve to 12-6 against the Keys this season.

All five of the Pelicans hits came in the first three innings; the team would go hitless in the final seven innings.

The Pelicans and Keys will play the second game of the three-game series Monday at Harry Grove Stadium. Right-hander Nick McBride (0-2, 1.61) will be opposed by lefty Trent Howard (3-0, 1.68). First pitch is set for 7 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.

The Pelicans return home next Saturday to play the Lynchburg Hillcats at TicketReturn.com Field. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.myrtlebeachpelicans.com or by calling 918-6000. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. EST.
