Armor Defeat Streaking Charge

SPRINGFIELD, MA- The Springfield Armor erased a nine-point halftime deficit with a furious third quarter rally to hold off the Canton Charge 105-100 before 4,285 fans inside the MassMutual Center tonight. The Armor improve to 24-19 on the season with the victory, while the Charge, winners of their previous seven games, fall to 26-19.

After both teams got off to sluggish starts in the first quarter, Canton seized command midway through the period, opening up a 25-14 lead with 1:31 to go. The Armor closed the quarter on an 8-3 run, capped by a JamesOn Curry step-back jumper to beat the buzzer, to cut the deficit to 28-22. Alan Anderson scored 13 of his game-high 30 points for the Charge in the period.

In the second, the Armor trimmed the lead to one on a Damian Johnson three-pointer with 7:33 to go in the half, but the Charge responded with a 14-2 run, punctuated by an Anderson layup, to put the Armor in their largest hole of the half, 49-37, with 3:09 to go. Canton buried 5-6 free throws in the final two minutes of the half to roll into halftime with a 56-47 advantage. Curry and Dennis Horner scored 10 points apiece to lead the Armor in the first half.

The third quarter proved to be the decisive period for the Armor, as Springfield used a 20-6 run over five minutes and fifty-six seconds of the third to take a 71-66 lead. L.D. Williams and Jeff Foote scored 23 of the Armor's 36 points in the quarter to stake the Armor to an 83-76 lead through three.

The fourth quarter featured four lead changes and five ties, but Horner scored 11 of his 21 points in the period (9-10 from the foul line), to maintain the slim advantage over the Charge. A Curry jumper with 2:17 to go gave the Armor the lead for the final time and clutch foul shooting down the stretch sealed the victory.

Williams scored a team-high 23 points for the Armor. Horner registered his ninth double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds, Curry tallied 19 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds, Foote added 15 points and 9 boards and Lance Hurdle and Zendon Hamilton chipped in 10 points each in the winning effort.

Canton's Luke Harangody, on assignment from the Cleveland Cavaliers, scored 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds on the evening, as Harangody and Anderson combined for 51 of Canton's 100 points. Frank Hassell added 15 points and T.J. Campbell contributed 11 points and 8 assists.

The Armor dished out 18 assists and tied their season-low by committing just 8 turnovers. Springfield forced 16 Canton turnovers and held the Charge to .389 shooting in the second half (Canton shot .513 from the field in the first half).

With the victory, the Armor win the season series over the Canton Charge, 2-1.

The Armor return to action on Tuesday when they host the Maine Red Claws at 7:00 p.m. ET. The Charge are off until Thursday when they head to Iowa to take on the Energy.
