Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox gave up four runs in the second inning and couldn't quite complete a comeback as they fell 4-3 to Salem-Keizer on Monday, Aug. 24, at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Luis Liberato got the AquaSox on the board first with a sac fly to score Drew Jackson in the bottom of the first. Liberato increased his RBI tally in August to 14 with the flyout. Entering the game he was tied for the league lead in RBIs in August. Jackson went 2 for 3 in the game.

After the four-run second for the Volcanoes, the AquaSox cut the deficit to two runs in the third. Taylor Zeutenhorst led off with a double and moved to third on a sac bunt by Jackson. Erick Mejia hit a groundout to the second baseman to score Zeutenhorst from third.

The Frogs' final run came in the bottom of the fifth when Mejia grounded into a fielders' choice that allowed Yordi Calderon to score from third. With Zeutenhorst on third, Mejia stole second, but the inning ended with the tying and winning runs in scoring position. Zeutenhorst was 2 for 3 in the loss.

Darin Gillies threw 4.2 scoreless innings in relief with only two hits allowed, two walks and seven strikeouts for Everett.
