FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Revolution Under-16 Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.) has been named 2012-13 Gatorade Rhode Island Boys Soccer Player of the Year for his high school soccer performance with La Salle Academy (Providence, R.I.). Apajee is the Revolution's second-consecutive Rhode Island player of the year, following Revolution alumnus and 2011-12 selection Colin Patch (Providence, R.I.; Connecticut College).

The award recognizes each state's top player for outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. As the Rhode Island selection, Apajee is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award to be announced in May.

"We are proud that Danny has been recognized by Gatorade and Rhode Island soccer," said Revolution Director of Youth Development and Under-16 Head Coach Bryan Scales. "He has worked very hard on his game and enjoyed a terrific season at LaSalle last fall. Congratulations to both Danny and LaSalle coach Mario Pereira on a fantastic year."

The high school junior scored 15 goals and added eight assists for La Salle, leading the Rams (13-2-3) to the Division I state championship match. Apajee earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) First Team All-State and All-New England honors, and is currently ranked at No. 72 in TopDrawerSoccer.com's national list of 2014 graduates. He has made a verbal commitment to attend and play soccer for Syracuse University beginning in the fall of 2014.

Outside of regular training, both the U18s and U16s have a break from competition until early March, when the Revs will resume their fifth season in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Kicking off a series of local matches, the U18s and U16s will play FC Westchester, while the U14s will take on Oakwood SC, at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, March 2.
