FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs are proud to announce today, the hiring of Anthony Williams to the position of Head Coach.

Williams enters his fifth season as the Head Baseball Coach at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg in Greensburg, Penn., where he has guided the program to the most successful stretch in history.

Before landing at the school in 2011, the Bobcats had never had a winning season. With Williams at the helm, the program has seen four consecutive playoff appearances, and keeps improving - setting a school record for wins (24) in 2015.

"I am extremely grateful and excited about the opportunity to lead the SwampDogs moving forward," said Williams. "I certainly would like to thank [SwampDogs President] Lew [Handlesman] and [SwampDogs general manager] Jeremy [Aagard] for putting their faith in me, and I'm looking forward to building a competitive team and bringing some fun and excitement to 'The Swamp' in 2016."

The Bobcats under Williams have been an offensive powerhouse in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, consistently placing at or near the top in all major offensive categories. His 2015 squad produced six all-conference position players.

Williams' coaching resume also includes stops at the NCAA Division I level at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and Division III level with Frostburg State University.

"Anthony has a proven track record of success everywhere he has been and we look forward to him continuing that this summer," said Aagard. "He's a proven leader on and off the field and is committed to ingratiating our players into the community."

"His enthusiasm for the game and development of these young men is second to none. We're excited to have him at the helm as we look to bring the Petitt Cup to Fayetteville in 2016."

Williams has worked in the Video and Advance Scouting department for the Pittsburgh Pirates for four seasons where he has been responsible for helping prepare advance scouting reports and video for the Pirate players, coaches and staff.

"The fans can look forward to seeing a team that plays hard and with a lot of energy night in and night out," Williams continued. "We are going to take pride in making the SwampDog baseball experience the best there is in the CPL.  See you at 'The Swamp' next summer!"

In his playing days, Williams played for Slippery Rock University, where he earned his B.S. in Sport Management. He also earned an M.B.A. from Frostburg State.
