Anthony Banda Strikes out Triple-A High 11 in Aces Win

El Paso, TX. - The Reno Aces defeated the El Paso Chihuahuas this afternoon by a score of 4-3. Diamondbacks number one prospect Anthony Banda go the start for Reno in El Paso. Banda, 23, delivered five and two-third innings on the way to his second win of the 2017 campaign. The southpaw set his new Triple-A high with 11 strikeouts, punching out the side in the first and fifth innings.
Reno got into the scoring column right away in the top of the first inning. Ildemaro Vargas (.319) singled on the fourth pitch of the game. Ketel Marte, riding a 10-game hit streak reached base on an error to set the table for the Pacific Coast League leader in RBI Christian Walker. Walker, the reigning PCL Player of the Week, singled to left field to score Vargas and give the Aces a 1-0 lead. Oswaldo Arcia (.375) followed the RBI trend with a double to score Walker. The Aces would tack on two more runs before closing out the inning.
Down quickly by a score of 4-0, El Paso responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning. Anthony Banda controlled the damage, striking out three around two walks and a triple. The score would remain the same until the bottom of the sixth inning when El Paso outfielder Jabari Blash hit a two-run home run to deep right-center field off of Banda bringing the score to 4-3 in favor of the Aces.
A combination of Eric Davis, Eric Jokisch, Silvino Bracho and T.J. McFarland ensured the Aces victory. McFarland picked up his first save of 2017, his first since June 16, 2015, as a member of the Norfolk Tides. Ketel Marte would finish the afternoon 1-for-4 with a run scored, extending his hit streak to a remarkable 11 games. Marte entered today's contest as professional baseball's hits leader with 30 in the month of April.
With the win, Reno is 3-2 against the Chihuahuas in 2017. T he Aces have two more games against El Paso before heading home Thursday to take on the Fresno Grizzlies.
