Carolina Mudcats News Release

Zebulon, N.C. - The Cleveland Indians promoted pitcher Cody Anderson and outfielder Tyler Naquin to AA-Akron on Wednesday afternoon. The promotions were part of six player moves affecting the Carolina Mudcats' roster.

Anderson was named the Cleveland Indians' Player of the Week for August 5-12. The right-hander dominated the Frederick Keys by tossing seven shutout innings. Keys' batters were 3-for-22 against Anderson, and he did not allow a runner past second.

Picked in the 11th round of the 2011 draft by the Indians, Anderson was 9-4 in his first season in Carolina. He owned the best ERA among Carolina League hurlers at 2.34 over 123.1 innings. His 112 strikeouts rank third in the Cleveland farm system. Anderson was named to the Carolina League All-Star team earlier this summer.

Naquin departs Carolina with a .277 average over 108 games. Playing in center field and batting lead off, Naquin stroked 124 base hits, cracked nine home runs and drove in 42 runs. The Indians' 2012 first round pick paced the Mudcats with 27 doubles and 69 runs scored. Naquin earned All-Star honors for his play in the Carolina League during his first full season in professional baseball.

In other roster moves, outfielder Logan Vick was promoted from A-Lake County. A Midwest League All-Star, Vick hit .281 over 107 games with the Captains. He stole 25 bases and smacked 23 doubles to go with five runs and 45 RBI.

Cole Cook was received from AA-Akron and will start for Carolina tonight. Catcher Ryan Battaglia returns from SS-Mahoning Valley. Outfielder Bo Greenwell was placed on the disabled list with knee soreness.

Carolina returns home August 14th to host the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in a three-game series. Wednesday night is ECU Pirate Night at Five County Stadium. Fans wearing East Carolina University apparel receive a $5 box seat ticket at the gate. First pitch against the Pelicans is set for 7:15 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (919) 269-2287 or visiting carolinamudcats.com.
