Amerks Rage Into Playoffs With 3-0 Win Over Grand Rapids

(Rochester, March 31)... The Amerks clinched their 2010 Calder Cup Playoff hopes with a 3-0 victory over the Grand Rapid Griffins as Van Andel Arena. With the win Rochester (41-31-2-1, 85 points) returns to the playoffs after being absent since the 2006-2007 season. The Griffins (31-35-3-4, 69 points) remain in last place in the North Division after the shutout loss.

Leading the way for the shutout victory was the wall between the pipes for the Amerks, netminder Tyler Plante who earned the first star of the game shutting out all 37 of the shots he faced. Veteran center Chris Taylor received the second star with three points with one goal and two assists. The third star of the night went to rookie Evgeny Dadonov who added the second and third goal of the night for Rochester giving him ten points (6+4) for the month of March.

The first goal of the game went to Amerks Taylor who scored his 17th goal of the season on the power-play to give Rochester a 1-0 at 14:37 in the first period. Assisting on the play were right wingers Graham Mink and Michal Repik.

Rochester was the first to net the puck in the second period with Dadonov scoring at 11:09 to give the Amerks a 2-0 lead over the Griffins. Earning his second point of the night was Taylor with an assist on the play, also assisting was defenseman John de Gray. Dadonov scored his second goal of the game and the second goal of the period for the Amerks at 15:59. Taylor (1+2) racked up his third point of the night assisting on the play while Mink earned his second assist of the night.

The Amerks head north of the border on Saturday, April 3rd to close out their season series with the North Division-champion Hamilton Bulldogs. Faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Copps Coliseum. The game will be the 10th and final meeting this season between the longtime divisional foes and can be heard live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. Despite having a 4-4-1-0 record this season against the ‘Dogs, Rochester owns a 67-55-9 all-time mark against the Baby Habs.
