Amerks Open 2008-09 Season Tonight Against Syracuse

Tonight, the Rochester Americans open their 53rd season in the American Hockey League against the Syracuse Crunch on Friday, October 10th at The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:35 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and whtk.com.
Head to Head: The matchup will be the first of 12 meetings between the I-90 Interstate foes and the first leg of a home-and-home series between the teams. Rochester will complete the two-game mini-series as it travels to the War Memorial at Oncenter for game two. Faceoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. Rochester is 78-67-15 all-time against their longtime North Division rival after posting a 2-9-1 record throughout the season series a season ago. The Amerks have a record of 33-13-6 in home-openers.
Block Party: On Opening Night, fans will enjoy one of the most exciting openers in the history of the franchise, as the organization provides pregame entertainment, LIVE music, free autographs, kids' events and the largest bobblehead giveaway in team history.
Opening Night will start with a bang as Shane Yellowbird and The Skycoasters perform FREE concerts outside the arena to kick off the Block Party. The Skycoasters will play from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. and will be followed by country music recording artist Shane Yellowbird from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. As part of the Block Party, kids and adults will also get to meet area mascots, face painters, clowns and such famous Amerks alumni. Further, fans will be able to jump around in the bounce house and get their first look at the Amerks' dance team, "The American Spirit".
Amerks Alumni: Curt Styres and the Rochester Americans would like to welcome the following former players in attendance tonight: Jody Gage, Dick Gamble, Doug Gibson, Duke Harris, Stan Jonathan, Steve Langdon, Ray Maluta, Sean McMorrow, Scott Metcalfe, Len Perno, Jim Pettie, Geordie Robertson and Amerks Assistant Coach Jason Cipolla.
Rory Fitzpatrick "mini" bobblehead give-away: The first 10,000 fans will receive a Rory Fitzpatrick "mini" bobblehead upon entering The Blue Cross Arena.
Next Home Game: Opening weekend concludes for Rochester on Sunday, October 12th as the Binghamton Senators make their first trip to The Blue Cross Arena this season. The 6:05 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and whtk.com.
