Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans shutout the Albany River Rats with a 4-0 win tonight at The Blue Cross Arena. With the win, newly acquired goaltender Mike Brodeur gained the first shutout for the Amerks this season. The win also gives the Amerks their fourth win on the season, snapping a three-game losing streak.

Brodeur gave a night of firsts with his first game as an Amerk, his first shutout of the season, and the first shutout of the season for the Amerks. Brodeur made 28 saves on 28 shots in the game to earn first star honors. The Amerks were led by a two-goal effort from Janis Sprukts, while Stefan Meyer and Tanner Glass each had a goal and an assist. Randall Gelech and Noah Welch picked up their first point as an Amerks with assists.

Albany goaltender Daniel Manzato allowed four goals, while making 24 saves on 28 shots as former Amerk Michael Ryan and the River Rats offense failed to find the back of the net.

Rochester took an early lead in the first when Meyer capitalized on his third attempt during a five-on-three power play. Meyer's sixth of the year was assisted by Gelech and Jason Garrison. Despite taking four more penalties, the Amerks added another goal while shorthanded at 16:18 when Sprukts sent a shot sailing above the left shoulder of David Manzato for a 2-0 lead.

The Amerks continued their rally with a second goal on the power play by Sprukts half-way through the second period. Sprukts sent the puck toward the net from the near goal line that snuck through the pads of Manzato.

Just over three minutes into the third, the Amerks extended their lead further when Glass put the puck in on the stick side while falling over goaltender Manzato. The goal gave Glass a "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" with one goal, one assist, and one fight in the game.
