Americans Fall to the Mallards 5-2

Moline, IL - The Allen Americans began what was originally a four game road trip in Moline, Illinois meeting the Quad City Mallards for the first time this season Wednesday night with a return match on Friday. Saturday night the Americans will take on the Missouri Mavericks, their original opponent for Tuesday night's game that was postponed due to inclement weather. Allen begins this road trip tied for second place with the Mavericks at 54 points, two points behind the first place Rapid City Rush in the Central Hockey League standings.
Quad City opened the scoring in the early going, Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel scored at 2:48 assisted by Nick Grasso to give the Mallards the 1-0 lead. Jamie Schaafsma answered back for Allen, netting his 8th goal of the season with assists from Daniel Tetrault and Jonathan Lessard at 7:09 to knot the score 1-1. Quad City doubled the Americans in shots on net at 11-5 but the score remained level through the first twenty minutes of play.
Just past the midway point of the middle frame, Quad City regained their one goal lead when Matt Boyd netted a shot at 10:48, assisted by Tyler Yaworski and Vladimir Nikiforov. Allen again answered back with a goal from Kale Kerbashian, his 16th of the season, assisted by Alex Lavoie and Jamie Schaafsma at 16:22. Quad City edged Allen in shots in the second period by a 9-8 count and held the two period shot advantage at 20-13 with the score 2-2.
Quad City regained the lead for a third and final time when Nicholas Rioux potted one at 9:56 of the third period, assisted by Vladimir Nikiforov and Mike Hellyer to give Quad City the 3-2 lead. Then Matt Duffy netted a goal on the power play to extend the Mallard lead to 4-2, assisted by Gergo Nagy at 11:45. Mike Stinziani capped the scoring, putting one into the empty net at 19:00, assisted by Nick Grasso to give the Mallards the 5-2 victory.
Allen continues their road trip with a rematch against the Quad City Mallards on Friday night; the puck drop is scheduled for 7:05PM.
