Sioux City 8, Gary SouthShore 1- Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers offense exploded on Sunday in a 8-1 win over the Gary SouthShore Railcats.

The Explorers collected 16 total hits and every member of the lineup had at least one. In the game's opening frame, Sioux City scored four runs on RBI doubles by Nate Samson, Jay Baum, and a two-run double by Dexture McCall. Gary SouthShore followed by scoring their only run of the game on a groundout by Mitch Glasser in the bottom of the inning.

The offensive performance was buoyed by a one-run complete game performance by Luis Mateo (4-2). Mateo allowed just seven hits while striking out five.

Jordan Edgerton homered and Baum hit a sacrifice fly in a two run top of the second to make it a 6-1 game. The Explorers would go on to score two more, with one coming on a solo home run by David Kerian.

With the win, Sioux City improved to 23-7 overall, while the Railcats fell to 15-13.

Winnipeg 5, Sioux Falls 2- Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes topped the Sioux Falls Canaries 5-2 on Sunday.

The Goldeys took the lead in the top of the first when Eric Aguilera hit his first independent league home run. Winnipeg would maintain the lead, scoring one in the third inning on a Dave Sappelt double and three in the fourth inning with two coming in via a Josh Mazzola home run.

Goldeyes' starter Mitch Lambson (1-0) played a huge part in holding the lead. The crafty lefty earned the win after giving up just one earned on six hits in six innings of work. Lambson has now given up just one earned run in his 11 innings pitched this season, good for a 0.81 ERA.

Jordan Smith went a season best 4-for-5 at the dish with a triple, a run scored, and an RBI for the Canaries.

Victor Capellan pitched a scoreless ninth to record his 13 save for Winnipeg.

With the win, the Goldeyes improved to 16-12 overall, while Sioux Falls fell to 11-17.

Fargo-Moorhead 8, Kansas City 6- Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks clinged to an early lead to defeat the Kansas City T-Bones 8-6 on Sunday.

Patience was key for the RedHawks who opened the bottom of the first by walking in three straight at bats to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Keury De La Cruz grounded into a double play, but the RedHawks were able to score a run. Leobaldo Pina doubled to score one in the next at bat, two batters later he would score on a Tim Colwell single. The scoring in the first finished with Yhoxian Medina crossed the plate on an error by the catcher.

The T-Bones countered in the top of the second with a solo home run by Adrian Nieto to make it 4-1, but Fargo-Moorhead scored two in the second and third to eventually bring the game to 8-2.

Kansas City did get within reach scoring one in the top of the fifth before adding three in the eighth before stranding the game tying runs.

Will Solomon (3-3) gave up five earned in a winning 7.1 inning performance for the RedHawks.

Randy McCurry pitched a scoreless ninth to record his seventh save.

With the win, Fargo-Moorhead improved to 14-14 overall, while the T-Bones fell to 15-13.

St. Paul 7, Chicago 1- Box Score

John Straka led the St. Paul Saints to a 7-1 win in his 2018 American Association debut on Sunday.

Straka (1-0), who has spent parts of the last two seasons with the Saints gave up just one unearned run in his first five innings of work.

The Dogs scored the unearned run in the bottom of the first, but the Saints took the lead in the top of the third on a two-run single by Max Murphy. The lead ballooned to 6-1 in the top of the six when Jake Smith picked up an RBI double and Kes Carter belted a three-run home run.

Smith collected another RBI in the seventh inning to bring the game to its final tally.

With the win, St. Paul improved to 17-11 overall, while Chicago fell to 8-20.

Wichita 3, Texas 1- Box Score

Zach Nehir hit a pair of solo home runs to lift the Wichita Wingnuts to a 3-1 win over the Texas AirHogs on Sunday.

Nehrir homered in just the second at bat of the game to give Wichita a 1-0 lead. The lead grew to two in the next inning when Hunter Clanin hit a sacrifice fly. The Wingnuts scored their final run in the third inning on Nehrir's second home run of the game.

The AirHogs scored their only run in the bottom of the seventh when Dillon Thomas hit a solo home run of his own.

Seth Harvey (3-0) was awarded the win after giving up just two hits and one walk in over five shutout innings. Daniel Tillman earned his seventh save.

With the win, the Wingnuts improved to 17-12 overall while Texas fell to 5-23.
