Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls got their measure of revenge against the Odessa Jackalopes on Friday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

After getting beaten 6-3 on New Year's Eve where the Bulls surrendered six straight goals after leading 3-0 the Bulls put it all together. Luke Edgerton scored twice and set up three more to power the Bulls past the Bunnies 5-2 and pull to within one point of the Corpus Christi IceRays for the 4th and final playoff spot in the South Division.

George Mika, Brendan Walkom and Jeff Solow had the other Bulls markers in the contest. Forward Steven Ipri continues his hot play with three assists while Alex Truscott notched two helpers.

The Bulls fired a team high 61 shots on goal including 22 in the first period alone. The difference in the game was the second period where the Bulls netted three straight goals to break open a close 2-1 contest at the time.

It was a strong first period for the Bulls as they fired 22 shots on goal and controlled the game right from the opening puck drop. Luke Edgerton gave the Bulls a 1-0 lead when he put a puck through the legs of goaltender Jon Flakne from Steve Ipri. Alex Truscott started the play from taking the puck away from the defenseman along the boards.

Odessa tied the game up early in the second period when Levi Wunder scored on a sharp-angled shot that eluded goaltender Nikita Babintsev.

After that it was all Amarillo, with three straight markers started by George Mika who scored on a scramble in front of the net from Luke Edgerton and Alex Truscott. Seven minutes later, Brendan Walkom scored on a rocket from inside the blueline that handcuffed goaltender Flakne and found its way to the back of the net. The Bulls offense was not done yet as Luke Edgerton scored his second of the game just over a minute later from Steven Ipri and Phil Fromberger. Odessa tallied a late goal in the final minute when Connor Wood scored on a play near the side of the net. The visitors outshot the Bulls 25-19 in the middle stanza.

The third period started out slow between the two teams but the Bulls put the game on ice thanks to a terrific rush up the ice. Jeff Solow finished off the play when he riffled a shot into the back of the net from Edgerton and Ipri at 7:35. Down the stretch, the Bulls continued to put pucks towards the net and gave the visitors a tough time gaining any traction through the night.

The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Odessa Jackalopes 61-36. There were five total power plays in the game with the Bulls going 0 for 4 and the Jackalopes were 0 for 1.
