Amarillo Bulls Drop Hard Fought Decision in OT

AMARILLO, TX - Two late goals separated the Amarillo Bulls from their first home win of the season on Friday night.

The Bulls surrendered the tying goal in the final four seconds of regulation and then the winning marker 26 seconds into the extra session and dropped a 5-4 decision to the Wichita Falls Wildcats at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. Despite the overtime loss, the Bulls were able to collect a point and climb back into sole possession of third place in the South ahead of the Odessa Jackalopes. However, the Bulls difficulty at home continued, dropping their mark to 0-4-2.

It was a see-saw affair between the two teams that saw the Wildcats lead 2-1 after the first period only to see the Bulls pull in front 3-2 after 40. After Amarillo had regained a one goal lead in the final five minutes, the Wildcats potted the equalizer in the final four seconds of regulation. Wichita Falls netted a power play goal to win the game with just 26 seconds gone by in overtime. George Mika scored twice for Amarillo, while Jonathon Dagnal and Charlie Singerhouse had the others. Kosta Likourezos picked up three assists. Kyle Madore posted the loss in the goal.

Ryan Orgel gave Wichita Falls a 1-0 lead in the first four minutes when he wired a power play goal past the blocker of Kyle Madore. Eight minutes later, the combination the Bulls tied the game when George Mika fired a shot past Evan Moyse. Kosta Likourezos and Hayden Broomhead picked up assists on the play. Wichita Falls roared back in front 2-1 when Ricky Carballo scored on a breakaway. Amarillo outshot the visitors 16-10 in the first period.

It was all home team in the middle stanza managing 22 shots on goal but just two tallies. Jonathan Dagnal tied the game for Amarillo when he put home a loose rebound from Kosta Likourezos and Alex Truscott. Six minutes later the Bulls power play tallied the go ahead when George Mika nailed a rocket in the top corner from Likourezos and Jeff Solow.

Forward Ilya Skvortsev tied the game for the Wildcats early in the third period on a play near the face-off circle. The final stanza continued to feature lots of hard work for both teams and it was the Bulls pulling ahead. Charlie Singerhouse scored on a one-timer from Cole Lussier and Steven Ipri with just 3:42 remaining. However, in the dying seconds Wichita Falls pulled its goaltender and Skvortsev wired home his second of the game to get his team even and into overtime.

Amarillo pushed the puck into its own end allowing the Wildcats to put on the pressure. The Wildcats netted the equalizer just 26 seconds in on the power play when Seamus Donohue scored on a scramble near the front of the net.

The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Wichita Falls Wildcats 48-41. The visiting Wildcats were 3 for 6 on the power play, while the Bulls concluded 1 for 3.

The weekend series between the two teams concludes on Saturday at 7 pm at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.
