AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls won a game for their Head Coach on Friday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

On an emotional night, Simon Morberg became the first Amarillo player in recent hockey history in the Texas Panhandle to score all of the team's goals as the Bulls blanked the Corpus Christi IceRays 4-0. Goaltender Jason Grande stopped all 39 shots to post his second shutout of the season.

The Bulls were missing their Head Coach Rocky Russo who was back in his hometown of Youngstown Ohio with his family following the tragic death of his father, Ron Russo, one week ago. There was a moment of silence prior to the game and the Bulls wore special stickers on their helmets.

It didn't take Amarillo long to get into the offense in the game as Simon Morberg rifled a shot past goaltender Jake Acton just eight minutes into the game. Defenseman Marcus Chorney set up the play with a hard pass to Morberg. Colin Price also picked up an assist on the play. The Bulls penalty killing was put to the test in the opening period and prevented the visitors from scoring. Several players were able to block shots that were headed towards the net. The Bulls outshot Corpus Christi 14-8 in the first period.

The second period opened up quickly for the Bulls and it was Morberg potting his second of the game as he backhanded a shot past goaltender Acton with help from Jon Russell and Colin Price. Russell was able to extend his point streak to 11 games. Amarillo kept the offensive pressure up the remaining of the period firing 20 shots on goal, but nothing else was able to find the back of the net. There was more special teams play in the 2nd period as the Bulls power play had the puck inside the visiting team's zone for nearly 1:20 of the penalty. Jason Grande was equal to the task for the Bulls in the middle stanza robbing several Corpus Christi players of scoring chances including one on a breakaway.

In the third period the Bulls were able to put the game out of reach with two goals in the final four minutes of regulation. First, it was the power play that was able to stretch the lead to 3-0 as Morberg picked up his third goal of the game on a shot from the slot area from Nick Stuckless and Quinn Warmuth. Morberg, who hails from Sweden, completed his magical night when he tipped a home a shot from the point from Brendan Michaelian and John Russell.

Goaltender Jason Grande was able to preserve the win and the shutout with more stellar play including several power play chances by the visiting IceRays.

The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Corpus Christi IceRays 41-29. There were a total of 13 power plays in the game with the Bulls getting the lone marker.

The first leg of a four game home stand wraps up for the Amarillo Bulls tomorrow (Saturday) night at 7 pm versus the Corpus Christi IceRays, at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. Saturday is Pink In The Rink and Hockey Fights Cancer. Several cancer survivors will be honored prior the game.
