Altoona Curve News Release

ERIE, Pa. - A three-run sixth inning by the Curve offense broke a 1-1 tie game and helped put the Curve past Erie, 4-1, on Saturday night at Jerry Uht Park. Kyle Kaminska (1-0) rejoined the Curve tonight and picked up the win in the start with six innings of one-run ball.

Altoona's three-run sixth began with a bang as Stefan Welch homered on the first pitch he saw from Jared Gayhart (1-6) to break the 1-1 tie. Jeremy Farrell followed the homer with a single and stayed at first until Andy Vasquez, who was starting in his first Double-A game, drilled a double to center to bring him in. Vasquez's double ended the day of Gayhart, who was pulled in favor of Kelvin de la Cruz for the remainder of the inning.

Drew Maggi was the first batter that de la Cruz dealt to and he induced a grounder to third off the bat of Maggi. SeaWolves' third baseman Corey Jones tossed to first to complete the out but as soon as he did Vasquez broke for third. 'Wolves first baseman Jordan Lennerton threw back to third to try and get Vasquez but his throw was errant and Vasquez stood up and ran home. After 5.5 innings, the Curve led, 4-1.

Kaminska worked the bottom of the sixth before departing and handing the ball to Jason Townsend, who tossed two more scoreless innings of relief. In three appearances since his promotion, Townsend has not allowed a run spanning 10.1 innings pitched. Jeff Inman came on to pitch the ninth and tossed a 1-2-3 frame to nail down his third save of the season.

Ramon Cabrera, Adalberto Santos and Farrell all had two-hit games in the Curve win on Saturday night. Altoona's victory is its fifth straight on the road and its fourth in a row overall. The Curve have now won 11 of their last 14 games beginning with the sweep of Trenton on August 20th.

Winners of four straight games and back at .500, the Curve (70-70) will try to ensure at least a .500 finish with a win on Sunday afternoon in the third game of the series with Erie (57-82) beginning at 1:35 p.m. RHP Tyler Waldron (1-2, 4.01), who was selected to participate in the Arizona Fall League earlier this week, makes his final start of the regular season tomorrow for the Curve while RHP James Avery (10-12, 4.69) tosses for Erie.

Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
