Youth in the Western North Carolina area will have an opportunity to take advantage of a little professional help to improve their basketball skills and fundamentals when the Asheville Altitude and the YMCA of Western North Carolina team up to present the second annual Asheville Altitude Basketball Camp June 21-July 30 at three local YMCA locations.

“The Asheville Altitude is delighted, to once again, partner with the YMCA of Western North Carolina to provide basketball camps for young hoops enthusiasts within our community,” said team president Alfred White. “We could not be more proud that the YMCA has chosen basketball as one of its platforms to fulfill its mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.”

Space is still available for a five-day week of fun and excitement for participants ages 6-14. Boys and girls of all skill levels are invited to attend one of three camps held at the following locations: June 21-25 at the Reuter Family YMCA in south Buncombe County, July 12-16 at the Asheville YMCA downtown and July 26-30 at the Corpening Memorial YMCA in Marion.

In addition to individual and group instruction, the Asheville Altitude Basketball camp will feature appearances by Altitude head coach Joey Meyer and various Altitude players.

Meyer, the all-time winningest coach in the NBDL, completed his third season by guiding the Altitude to the 2004 NBDL Championship. Asheville is the first NBDL team to notch both the regular and postseason titles in the same year.

The Asheville Altitude Basketball Camp promises to be a fun-filled, intense learning experience for all. Registration form and fees must be submitted to the YMCA one-week prior to the camp start date. Participants may register at any of the YMCA of Western North Carolina’s branches. Registration can also be made by phone (828) 252-4726, by mail (30 Woodin St., Asheville, NC 28801) or on the YMCA’s website at www.ymcawnc.org. Fees vary per age group and are nonrefundable.
