Asheville Altitude News Release

ASHEVILLE, N.C., November 16, 2002 – The Asheville Altitude mounted a late second half comeback in its home opener, but it wasn’t enough Saturday night against the Huntsville Flight.

The Flight, behind Brandon WilliamsÂ’ 18 points, downed the Altitude 79-74 at the Asheville Civic Center.

Asheville (0-2) held a one-point lead entering the fourth quarter before Huntsville went took a 60-54 lead. Asheville trailed the entire fourth quarter before putting on a scoring surge in the final minute with its defensive pressure. The Altitude - led by Jeff TrepagnierÂ’s game-high 19 points - narrowed the deficit to 76-72.. But with the clock being a factor, Asheville was unable to get any closer..

"They were out hustling us," Trepagnier said. "We were playing catch-up. Our biggest thing was that we werenÂ’t keeping them off the boards."

The Flight (2-0) swarmed to the glass outrebounding Asheville 43-26 in the game.

"How many games are you going to win if you get outrebounded," said Asheville head coach Joey Meyer. "We were a little step slow. I thought we had the momentum after the third quarter (when Asheville led 51-49). Then, we were making some plays on the defensive end to get our offense started. Huntsville picked up its energy and we didnÂ’t match it."

Also, scoring in double figures for Asheville was Andre Woolridge, who played in his first regular season game, finishing with 14 points. Larry Abney contributed with 15 points in the loss. Lonnie Harrell finished with 15 points for Huntsville.

The AltitudeÂ’s next game is Thursday, Nov. 21 against the NBDL defending champions the Greenville Groove at 7:15 p.m.
