Almonte's Walk-Off Single Gives Jackson Win In 13th

JACKSON, TENN. (April 23, 2013) - In the longest game of the season, Tuesday night, the Jackson Generals (8-11) won in 13 innings 2-1 over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (8-10). With two outs in the 13th inning, Abraham Almonte delivered a walk-off single scoring Brad Miller. The win evened the series at 2-2, forcing the rubber match Wednesday.

Out of the gate, Pensacola's lead-off batter, Ryan LaMarre led the game off with a home run which gave the Wahoos a 1-0 advantage.

Generals' third basemen Jack Marder (2-5, 3B, R) led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple. Then, with one out, the Generals evened the score 1-1, after Gabriel Noriega (1-5, RBI) grounded out to second to push Marder across the plate.

Jackson starter Chance Ruffin (ND, 2-0, 7.0,4,1,1,2,6,1) had a quality outing for the Generals and received the no decision. In addition, Pensacola starter RHP Tim Crabbe also recorded a no decision. Nick Hill (W, 1-1, 2.0,0,0,0,0,1,0) was awarded the win for the Generals, while Josh Ravin suffered the loss.

Leon Landry (1-6, 1B) extended his hitting streak to six games with a single.

In the bottom of the 13th, Miller at third and Jones on first with two outs, Abraham Almonte (1-5, RBI, BB) hit a walk off RBI single to left-center to win 2-1. The Generals out-hit the Wahoos 14-5 and won in 13 innings.

Catch the Generals and Blue Wahoos on Wednesday at 11:05 a.m. for the finale of the series. Jackson will start LHP James Gillheeney (2-0, 1.10) on the mound. Wahoos' RHP Chad Rogers (1-0, 2.04) will take the mound for Pensacola.
