Peoria Rivermen News Release
St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has returned goaltender Jake Allen on loan to the Peoria Rivermen and activated goaltender Jaroslav Halak from injured reserve. The team has also reassigned Paul Karpowich from Peoria to their ECHL affiliate, Evansville IceMen.
Allen, 22, made his NHL regular season debut on Feb. 5 against Nashville in relief of Brian Elliott. Allen made six saves on eight shots in 30:40 of work in a 6-1 loss. His only previous NHL experience was on April 30, 2012 when he was inserted into a playoff game against Los Angeles for 67 seconds without seeing a shot on goal.
Allen has appeared in 31 games for the Rivermen this season posting a 12-13-3-2 record including a 2.94 goals against average, .903 save percentage and two shutouts. The 6'2, 200-pound goaltender set Rivermen records for wins (24), minutes played (2,805), saves (1,306) and shutouts (6) during the 2010-11 season. The Fredericton, New Brunswick native was drafted by the Blues in the second round (34th overall) of the 2008 Entry Draft.
Karpowich, 24, spent a week on the Rivermen roster and did not appear in a game. He made his professional debut this season with the IceMen. In 23 games, he has posted a 7-12-1-1 record with a 3.08 goals-against average and 0.905 save percentage. He posted a 23-save shutout on Nov. 17 against Fort Wayne.
Selected by the Blues in the seventh round, 185th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Karpowich played the last four seasons at Clarkson University. In 2011-12 with the Golden Knights, he played a career-high 37-games, posting a record of 16-15-6 with a school record 5-shutouts and a 2.46 GAA and .921 sv%. In all, Karpowich played in school record 130-career games, registering 7-shutouts and 46-victories.
