Quad City Mallards News Release

ALLEN, Texas (March 8, 2012) - Keith Johnson's third period goal proved to be the game winner and Marco Cousineau made 22 saves as the host Allen Americans defeated the Quad City Mallards 3-2 Thursday night. With the loss, the fifth place Mallards fall to 32-24-2 (66 points) and remain two points behind fourth place Rapid City in the race for the final Turner Conference playoff spot.

At 7:51 of the third, Jarrett Lukin led a 3-on-1 Allen rush and set up Johnson in the slot for a goal that, at the time, gave the Americans a 3-1 lead.

Mickey Lang's blast from just inside the blue line would cut the gap to 3-2 just over two minutes later, but the Mallards were unable to produce an equalizer, even after pulling goaltender David Brown (34 saves) for an extra attacker in the final minute.

The Americans had first moved in front when Jake Newton snapped a 1-1 tie with a fine solo rush at 1:46 of the second period.

The evening got off to a promising start for Quad City when Jared Brown finished off a 2-on-1 rush to give the Mallards a 1-0 lead at 13:55 of the first period, but the Americans would even the score at one and kick off a run of three straight goals when Jeff Martens drove the puck home from the top of the left wing circle with just 1:26 left in the first.

By assisting on Lang's goal Brandon Marino joined league leader Todd Robinson (83 points) of Evansville as the second player in the CHL to reach 80 points this season.
