Lexington Legends News Release

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Lexington Legends fans can look forward to plenty of fireworks and fun at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in 2016. The 70-game home schedule opens April 7. The Legends, class A affiliate of the World Series champion Kansas City Royals, have planned a wide variety of promotions, theme nights and discounts throughout the season.

The Legends will also serve as host for the South Atlantic League All-Star game for the first time since 2003. The All-Star game is scheduled for Tuesday, June 21.

Among the highlights:

Bark in the Park nights, on which fans are welcome to bring their dogs to the game, have become so popular that the Legends are making every Thursday night home game, including the season opener, a Bark in the Park night.

Bobblehead giveaways will recognize former University of Kentucky basketball star and 2016 NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins, Legends coach and former major league All-Star Glenn Hubbard, and Lafayette High School graduate Anderson Miller, who last year became the first Lexington native to play for the Legends.

The Cousins bobblehead will be given to fans at the April 22 game. Hubbard's bobblehead, a reproduction of his famous 1984 baseball card photo in which he had an eight-foot boa constrictor draped around his neck, will be given away June 24. The Miller bobblehead will be available July 1.

A variety of theme nights are on the schedule, including Go Red Night for the American Heart Association June 3, Military Appreciation Night June 25, and Breast Cancer Awareness Night July 9.

Faith and Family Night, sponsored by Asbury University, is set for Saturday, July 23. The Legends will welcome a prominent Christian rock band to Whitaker Bank Ballpark, with details to be announced very soon.

The Legends will again offer their popular weekly promotions, which include discounts on food and beverages. Monday is Kids Eat/Play Free night, presented by Members Heritage Credit Union. Each child age 12 or under will receive a voucher good for a meal and drink, and a wristband that will allow free access to the play area with inflatables down the left field line. Each Tuesday night will be 39-cent hot dog night, in recognition of the Ford F-150 being the number one selling truck for 39 consecutive years. Thirsty Thursdays, which offer beer and Pepsi products for one dollar each, also will continue.

Sundays are JIF Kids Club Sundays. Membership in the Kids Club, which is open to children age 12 and under, is free of charge. Kids Club members receive special benefits such as discounts at the Legends gift shop, a subscription to the monthly e-newsletter, a members-only batting practice, a photo opportunity in the Legends dugout and many more. More information is available at lexingtonlegends.com. All kids may run the bases after each Sunday home game.

There will be lots of baseball under the sun in 2016. Education Day games, each beginning at 10:05 a.m., are set for April 13, May 18 and May 25, all Wednesdays.

Other than Education Days, Wednesday games will be Businessperson Specials, with first pitch at 12:35 p.m.

Sunday games will begin at 2:05 p.m., except for the July 3 game, which will start at 6:05 p.m. and will be followed by a fireworks show to celebrate Independence Day. The Legends are on the road July 4.

In addition to July 3, fireworks shows are scheduled to follow Legends games on April 7 (opening night), April 9, May 6, May 14, June 3, June 4, July 2, July 9, July 16, July 23, August 5, August 6 and August 20.

A fireworks show will also follow the All-Star game on June 21.

"The 2016 schedule is filled with great promotions," said Legends President/CEO Andy Shea. "Once again, our fans can experience all the fun of minor league baseball at a great price. It's going to be an exciting year."
