All Intimidators After First Standoff in Kannapolis

Hagerstown, MD- The Hagerstown Suns (69-53, 29-23) were flattened by the Kannapolis Intimidators (68-52, 31-21) on Thursday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in a one-sided affair, 12-4. Kannapolis swatted 16 base hits and committed no errors, while the Suns knocked ten base hits and made two errors. The Suns snapped their seven game winning streak.

Hagerstown LHP Matt Grace (11-6), the losing pitcher, in his second shortest outing of the season, made it through just 2.2 innings, allowing seven runs, but only three earned, on eight hits and one walk, while garnering three strikeouts.

Conversely, Intimidators RHP Phil Negus (4-0), the winning pitcher, tossed 5.0 innings and surrendered four earned runs on eight knocks and one walk, while fanning five.

Kannapolis struck first with one run on an RBI double by 1B Dan Black, who went 2-for-3, with three runs and two RBI.

The Intimidators exploded for a sixth run in the 3rd frame on six singles and two errors. Runs batted in were collected by Black, CF Trayce Thompson, DH Ross Wilson, and LF Colin Kuhn.

The Suns scored a pair of runs in the 2nd inning when C Adrian Nieto hooked a double into right field, LF Chris Curran blooped an RBI single into center, and CF Michael Taylor cranked an RBI double to left field.

Hagerstown took a 3-1 lead in the 3rd frame on a double into the left center field gap smoked by 2B Adrian Sanchez, before DH David Freitas punched an RBI single through the right side of the infield.

Both clubs scored one run in the 5th inning when Hagerstown's Sanchez crushed a solo home run over the left field wall, his 2nd of the season and C Miguel Gonzalez ripped a ground rule off the third base bag and into the stands to score Thompson, who walked, for Kannapolis. Thompson was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, and one walk.

Kannapolis tagged RHP Wilson Eusebio with four earned runs on six hits in 2.2 innings. The Intimidators tallied two runs in the 6th inning when Thompson laced an RBI double into the right field corner and DH Ross Wilson lined an RBI single to give the home squad a 10-4 lead.

The Intimidators plated a pair of runs in the 8th inning when 3B Rangel Ravelo teed an RBI double into the left center field gap and Wilson crushed an RBI single off the glove of 3B Blake Kelso.

Kannapolis RHP Justin Collop (1 SV) earned his first save of the season, despite the lopsided score, because he finished the last three innings of the game, giving up just one hit and striking out three.
