YOUNGSTOWN, OH - John Leonard scored his 17th goal of the season just over six minutes into the third period to lift the Green Bay Gamblers to a 2-1 win over the Youngstown Phantoms (29-17-4-1, 63 points) Saturday night at the Covelli Centre. It was a penalty-filled affair, Green Bay was awarded five power plays, including 1:19 of a 5-on-3 and a major power play. Youngstown received six man-advantages. Neither team was able to convert on any of their chances.

"Games like that there isn't a whole lot of flow," said Phantoms Head Coach Brad Patterson. "It's tough to swallow obviously, a 2-1 loss. I thought we could have been better in a lot of areas tonight."

Green Bay opened the scoring at 6:07 of the first period when Rory Herrman scored his first career USHL goal, beating Ivan Kulbakov (22 saves) high to the blocker side with a wrist shot from the slot.

Youngstown tied the game at 13:28 of the second period on a goal by Marshall Moise. Just above the circle along the left wall, Moise pulled the puck out a scrum and flung it on net. The puck appeared to be redirected along the way and trickled through the five hole of Maksim Zhukov (29 saves) for Moise's fourth goal of the year. Jack Rathbone received the secondary assist on the goal for the first point of his USHL career.

Leonard's game-winner came at 6:01 of the third period. After Green Bay entered their offensive end, Leonard was able to get inside position and drove the net, creating a 2-on-1. Josh Kosack floated a pass to the mouth of the crease, and Leonard was able to tap it in to a wide-open cage to give Green Bay the lead that they would not relinquish.

With the win, Green Bay cuts the Phantoms lead for the fourth-and-final playoff spot back to five points. Youngstown's magic number to clinch that playoff spot remains at 12. The Phantoms were able to keep pace with the third-place Muskegon Lumberjacks, who were shut out by the Chicago Steel 3-0, and remain three points behind their northern rival.

Youngstown takes to the road for the next five games, travelling first to Omaha next weekend to battle the Lancers on Friday and Saturday night. Puck drop for both games is scheduled for 8:05pm Eastern and broadcasts will be available on HockeyTV and News Talk 1290 AM out of Omaha.
