Omaha Lancers News Release

Sioux City, IA - The Lancers reverse their fortunes from a night ago as Omaha made their first trip to a shootout a successful one Saturday as the Lancers topped Sioux City 5-4 at Tyson Events Center.

Omaha's Austin Alger netted the game winner in the skills competition. Greg Printz scored for the third time in two games, while Derek Hamelin and Filip Rydstrom each contributed a goal and assist in the win. Tommy Nappier made 35 saves in the win.

Sioux City opened the scoring shortly after the opening puck dropped. Marcel Godbout snapped a quick shot under the arm of Tommy Nappier to give Sioux City a 1-0 lead. Derek Hamelin drew the Lancers even before the period was out however. The Mercier, Quebec native's shot from the left point made its way through traffic and to the back of the net. When the first buzzer sounded the Lancers and Musketeers were tied at 1-1.

Greg Printz gave Omaha their first lead of the night in the second. Hovering in the high slot, Printz took a pass from Filip Rydstrom quickly snapping it high to the short-side of Matiss Kivlenieks. Omaha's 2-1 lead was short lived. Only 0:30 Philip Knies brought the home side even once more with his 9th goal of the season. Before the period ended Omaha retook the lead.

Austin Alger's shot got deflected as he cut towards the net but a floating puck found its way right to the stick of Filip Rydstrom who tapped it into the net for a 3-2 Omaha lead.

In the third Omaha would push the lead to 4-2 before the Musketeers would strike back. Just like Omaha did the night before Sioux City scored two consecutive to force extra time.

After no one was able to score in the extra period Omaha and Sioux City headed into the shootout.

Austin Alger started things off for Omaha and scored the only goal they would need. Walking in on Kivlenieks, the Miami commit quickly put a shot past the Musketeer netminder and giving Omaha a 1-0 lead in the shootout.

Tommy Nappier stopped all three shots he faced, leaving Alger's opener as the winner.
